Open Source Enterprise Search Services (Apache Lucene/ Apache Solr)
Apache Solr has become the most popular open source enterprise search platform in use today. Solr’s primary features include robust full-text search, hit highlighting, faceted search, rich document (e.g., PDF, Microsoft Word, etc.) handling, and geospatial search. Solr uses the Lucene Java search library at its core for full-text indexing and search, and has REST-like HTTP/XML and JSON APIs that make it easy to use from virtually any programming language.
Solr is architected to deliver very fast search operations across a wide variety of data so that businesses can supply easy and intelligent ways for their customers to find exactly the products and services that interest them. Further, Solr provides powerful functions that facilitate geospatial and document search operations.

dtSearch is most popular proprietary full text search engine for both performance and flexibility, costing a fraction compared to SQL Server’s Full Text Engine.
At e-Zest we have been working on dtSearch for more than decade now. We have used dtSearch in .NET, Java and PHP based applications for customers ranging from government organizations, non-profit businesses to legal document discovery solutions.
We have built web spider applications, custom search web controls, index sites, and document and knowledge management solutions using dtSearch libraries.
